A Day at the Beach
Gordon and I had time off this past week while the kids were on Spring Break, so since we had such summer-like weather on Thursday, we decided to head out to the beach and enjoy the weather before the rain came on Friday. It was much cooler at the beach, but not cold enough to keep the kids from playing in the water.
I had brought a couple pair of pants in case their’s got a little wet, but as you can see, they got much wetter than I had anticipated. They didn’t care though. They were having too much fun digging for sand crabs.
While the kids played in the sand, Gordon and I sat in our beach chairs and watched the surfers. It was nice to be able to just sit and relax. It also made me that much more ready for summer. We spend nearly every weekend at the beach in the summer. In fact, we decided that we would spend part of our summer vacation this year at the beach in some sleepy beach front motel. The boys were very happy to hear that!
We watched the surfers until the setting sun chased them out of the water. There were other families there as well, probablyfor the same reasons as us.
The boys definitely had worked up an appetite, so we walked down the main street across from the beach and had dinner. After dinner we went to a little coffee house on the corner. They had checkers at the tables, so we sat there and played checkers until Owen couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore. We didn’t get home until after 10 p.m. and for the first time all week, they were ready to go to bed once we got home.
It was the first time that both Gordon and I have been home during Spring Break with the boys at the same time. Usually just one of us will take the week off while the other works. None of us are ready for it to be over. The boys are already complaining about going back to school. I just keep reminding them that school is out in only 9 weeks and we’ll be back at the beach every weekend and off on our summer trip. I don’t know who’s going to have a harder time waiting for summer. Me? Or them? We’ll see!
